The Greening of Detroit
The Greening of Detroit is a non-profit organization focused on enhancing the quality of life for Detroiters by planting trees, providing job training and involving our youth in the education of the natural environment. We involve Detroiters in the process through community engagement, green spaces, education and jobs.
OUR MISSION
Inspiring sustainable growth of a healthy urban community through trees, green spaces, healthy living, education, training and job opportunities.
Since 1989 we have planted over 135,000 trees in the City of Detroit, Hamtramck and Highland Park. We continue to plant along city and residential streets and within parks and playgrounds.
Since 2010 we have provided landscape and tree artisan certification classes to Detroiters with barriers to employment. Trainees receive hands on training in the field along with job readiness skills, financial literacy, CPR, and MiOSHA.
We aspire to provide a greener tomorrow for our Detroit. The Detroit Tree Equity Partnership is an opportunity for us to apply our local planting expertise at a greater scale than we have in the past, and that means bringing the positive impact trees provide to a greater number within our community than ever before!
